Raison D'etre

A Section 8 Company titled, "INDIAN NAVAL DESPATCH FOUNDATION (INDEF)," with its registered office situated in Goa, India, has been established on 16 September 21. The INDEF has been set up with a pan world objective to:

  • promote knowledge, awareness and understanding of naval, defence and maritime security issues, through suitable research and education activities.
  • support the Indian Navy’s Professional Military Education programmes, by undertaking studies, fostering critical thinking, and guiding research on the maritime strategic environment, events, issues and trends affecting maritime security, maritime technological developments, and maritime law, commerce and history, in concert with the Naval War College, Goa and other Indian Naval institutions.
  • study the various issues affecting the continuing development of Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR) and fostering of a favourable and positive maritime strategic environment in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
  • support the Indian Navy’s efforts towards developing shared maritime awareness and understanding of issues affecting maritime security in the broader Indo-Pacific region, by undertaking and collaborating on studies, research programmes and educational activities promoting regional maritime cooperation.
  • encourage maritime studies on issues affecting development of the maritime economy, including blue economy, maritime infrastructure, marine ecology, maritime trade and shipping, fishing, hydrography, oceanography, etc., in cooperation with suitable national and international institutions.
  • collaborate and cooperate with other institutions and agencies, such as academic, research, government, non-governmental, public and private, in undertaking and promoting research and education, for the purposes aligned to the objects of the Company.
  • organise, conduct, support, and participate in workshops, seminars, symposiums, conferences, conclaves, roundtables, group discussions, meetings, lecture series, education and study programmes, and other events related to the objects of the Company.
  • print, publish, issue and circulate papers, articles, newsletters, briefs, journals, compendiums, books and other literature, so as to generate awareness and enhance understanding of issues related to the objects of the Company, including by offering research fellowships, prizes and scholarships.
  • establish and maintain resource pool, linkages, libraries, information services, online portals and websites, to promote the objects of the Company.
  • subject to the provisions of the Companies Act, 2013, to contribute or guarantee money to, or otherwise assist or support, any charitable, benevolent, educational, scientific, naval, defence or maritime institutions or bodies.
  • pursue above objectives of the Company on no-profit and no-loss basis, as far as possible.
  • do or get done, all such other lawful things as may be incidental to or conducive to the attainment of the above objects.
